It was the place where the British surrendered to the Japanese during WWII
The Civilian War Memorial Park.
It was built in memory of the civilians killed during the Japanese Occupation during WWII.

During WWII, it was used as a hospital and during the occupation it was used as a school.

Used as an emergency hospital during WWII

During WWII it was a casualty station. Also during the Japanese Occupation it was used as a place for the Japanese to broadcast propaganda.
